Where the first weeks go wrong
The first layer does not stick, or the nozzle digs into the bed, and the manual says little about why.
Slicer software shows hundreds of settings. A beginner needs to know the six that matter first.
Forum answers assume you can name the failure: stringing, warping, under-extrusion or layer shift.
Guides written for one printer model date fast; the principles behind a good print do not.
What the book will hold
The book follows your first month with the printer: setup and the first print, then the slicer settings that matter, then a failure guide with one page per problem (what it looks like, the usual causes in order, what to change). It is written for any filament printer, not one brand.
- Setup and first print, with a first-layer check you can see
- The slicer settings that matter first, explained in plain words
- A failure guide: one page per problem, with the usual causes in order
- PLA, PETG and TPU: what each is for and what it needs
- Twenty useful prints for the home, and how to change one
- A first look at simple CAD so you can design a part
- Format: paperback and ebook
Questions
Is the book available?
Not yet. This page is a test: it checks whether readers want Your First 3D Printer before it is written. The reserve button only counts your click. No payment details are asked for and nothing is charged.
When does it launch?
The planned launch window is spring 2027. The planned launch price is $18.99 for the paperback. Reserving now is free and no payment is taken today.
What happens when I press reserve?
After one short question, the reserve button counts your click and shows a page that says the book is not available yet, with a free printable sheet. This page collects no e-mail address, so it cannot tell you when the book is out.
Which printers does it cover?
Any desktop filament (FDM) printer. It explains principles that apply to all of them. Brand names are only used to say which model a photo shows; the book is not affiliated with any printer maker.
Is it for resin printers?
No. Resin printing is a different method with its own safety rules and is not covered.
Who is behind this?
Myhotend is a planned book imprint of Bardach Technologies LLC. Nothing is on sale yet.
